Each year, Vivatech, Europe's largest tech event, confirms its status as a showcase for Made-in-Africa innovation. And the seventh edition, held in Paris from June 14 to 17, was an opportunity to discover technological solutions to continental and even global problems!
Africa is a land of innovation. There is no need to prove it now. The seventh edition of Vivatech, Europe's largest technology event, held in Paris from 14 to 17 June at the Parc des Expositions, confirmed this once again.
“More than 300 innovations whose applications should contribute to a better world”
With the participation of 2,400 startups from 32 countries, the event, which aims to be a platform between public institutions, the business world and innovation, as well as a space for exchange and reflection on major technological challenges, will once again live up to its promise. Over four days, this year's event was organized around 4 main themes: Climate Tech & Energy, Diversity & Inclusion, Sport Tech and Artificial Intelligence, the event showcased more than 300 innovations whose applications will contribute to a better world. That's the general idea. And in a world facing many crises in terms of access to resources, both natural and financial, Africa's resilience, exemplified by its technological innovations, is inspiring.
"Harnessing the transformative power of technology for Africa's sustainable development"
"Technology and Africa go hand in hand," said Nigerian entrepreneur Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation. Yes, there are challenges in Africa, but there are also enormous opportunities. Our population and demographics represent the world's largest market for business, labor and innovation. As an entrepreneur and philanthropist investing in people and businesses across Africa, I know that there is nowhere else in the world where you can get the kind of return on investment that you can in Africa(...) I believe that governments, businesses and development partners must empower young African entrepreneurs with access to economic and technological infrastructure, digital literacy and innovation to harness the transformative power of technology for Africa's sustainable development."
"Innovations made in Africa at the gates of European and international markets"
Low-cost electric transport vehicles, a machine that turns air into water and an application that gives your wardrobe a second life and reduces the consumption of the luxury industry: these are just some of the made-in-Africa innovations on show at Vivatech, designed wholly or partly in Africa but already at the gates of the European and international markets.
