With a 238 million dollars' funding, the works to deploy broadband in Guinea are now over. The whole territory is covered thanks to a 4000 kilometers' network linking every city to submarine cables.
"This network will allow Guinean people, companies to communicate quickly"
"This network will allow Guinean people, public and private companies, banks, and every sector to be at the forefront of developments: communicate and get information quickly, see virtual images, and be all around the world at all times," Sanoussy DABO, economist, and the general director of the company managing the Guinean Internet backbone said. Eximbank has provided most of the funding, 214 million dollars, through Guinea and China's cooperation to deploy this 4425 kilometers infrastructure all equipped. "Everything is over as planned, and we launched the marketing stage. Today we have a 44 racks data center. That means we can host all Africa's data, so we are ready."
A price decline coming for the consumer
Work lasts six years, from 2014 to 2020, and will improve the quality of public and private services and offer the possibility to reduce communication costs for Guinean users. It is also a chance for companies and a source of income for the state. The civil society greets an advance that will increase access to the internet in rural areas.
The Guinean internet backbone complies with international standards by building three cables in urban areas and two in rural areas. When the exploitation reaches its average speed, it should secure between 30 and 40 million dollars every year for the national budget.
