The e-health bracelet Pass Mousso, by Ivorian Corine Maurice OUATTARA, helps doctors and protects patients in Ivory Coast.

The issue

Providing a medical record makes it easier to respond to emergency care

“Everything started from an event that occurred in 2014, the death of a young model in Abidjan, confides Corine Maurice OUATTARA, founder of Pass Mousso. Assaulted in the night, she died in hospital from her injuries because the hospital staff didn’t have the necessary information about her health. 70% of the people who enter the hospital in our country don’t have a medical record, so it is difficult for the professionals to give them the best care. The situation is even more serious in the event of a health crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic that we are experiencing but also Ebola that is coming back. We wanted to provide a solution to a long-standing problem.”

The solution

A connected bracelet to store patient data

Called Pass Santé Mousso and in the shape of bracelet with a QR-code, it is associated with an online and mobile platform that allows its owner to carry his personal and medical data at all times, which facilitates his medical care and monitoring. “The patient fills in the information, his personal data, his medical record, the person to contact in case of emergency, and then the medical staff takes care of the update”, underlines Corine. The system is secure and provides for the protection of personal data.

The stakeholders

Corine Maurice OUATTARA is the CEO of MCM, the company that initiated the project.

She holds a degree in private law option company UNIVERSITY HOUPHOUËT as well as a Diploma of Administrative Director with EDUTECAL France. After eight years of practice in several companies, Corine OUATTARA remained guided to the perpetual quest for innovation. This will be done through professional reorientation in the fields of electronic security and ICT. She also starts her own business by creating MCM in 2012 thanks to a World Bank program of which she is the General Manager. She developed two years later in 2014, together with her team, the PASS SANTE MOUSSO.

The impact

Saving lives

With more than 10,000 users, the Pass Mousso operates in several hospitals and clinics in Ivory Coast. Accredited by the Ministry of Health, it is available in the premises of Maurice Communication Marketing (MCM), in the commune of Marcory (Abidjan), health centers, clinics and partner pharmacies, for a cost of 5,000 CFA francs (about 7.62 euros), and an annual subscription of 1,000 CFA francs (1.52 euros), after the first year of use, as a data maintenance fee.

With nearly a thousand deaths every year in road accidents, the innovation quickly aroused the interest of health authorities, especially as it provides them with epidemiological data. As well as that of neighboring countries. “We are in the process of developing the Pass in other countries in the region, in Senegal, Togo, Benin… We are trying to adapt to the realities of the different countries. What you need to know is that our platform is very modular and can work with several existing solutions.” Hence its deployment with local partners.
