With more than 10 000 users and 400 companies in the agro-livestock and food sectors in its network, Jangolo offers African farmers a platform to sell products, connect with potential partners, and provide a management solution. An overall solution for more efficiency in agriculture.

The issue

To reduce post-harvest losses

In Cameroon, like everywhere in Africa, post-harvest losses reach 40% due to a lack of access to markets. “Answer to this equation is improving the farmers and countries’ incomes”, Bertrand FOFFE, Jangolo’s founder highlights.

The solution

A platform connecting producers and consumers

After the creation in 2016 of a pilot farm in Douala that provides insights about farmers’ needs, Bertrand FOFFE, Cameroonian, launched Jangolo, a company specialized in AgriTech. Jangolo offers three solutions to answering issues farmers face in Cameroon and the continent. First, an application allows small and medium-sized farms to plan, follow, and sell their products. Then an e-commerce platform to sell farm products to anyone. And finally, an online sale of food and livestock services. “Our different services are focused on improving local farmers’ living conditions, the entrepreneur explains. We support farmers in their daily life. They can focus on their main activity and stop worrying about selling.”

The stakeholders

Bertrand FOFFE, an engineer who became a farmer

Bertrand FOFFE, a 37 years old Cameroonian, studied computing in Douala. Simultaneously he created two companies, in IT consulting and audiovisual. Then, he decided to go to Europe to reinforce his knowledge. By accident, he ends up in Holland, where he took engineer courses. In 2016 he launched a project in Cameroon. “I wanted to bring something to my country as a computer scientist. When I got back to Cameroon for the holidays, I saw my own city Douala didn’t even have a website. Who will come to change that?” With a group of friends, he launched Jangolo in the agriculture sector. Obvious for this great son of farmers.

The impact

Without intermediaries, the producer earns more, the consumer spends less

In Africa, farmers and agribusinesses lose about 40% of their annual production due to poor integration into the agro-industrial value chain. Jangolo offers an integrated platform where agribusinesses from all parts of the value chain can meet, exchange and negotiate quickly and effortlessly.

“We realized that the product price between the farm and the Douala market was multiplied by three on average. Six intermediaries put maximum pressure on the farmers who sell at a loss,” Bertrand FOFFE explains.

Digital Africa's perspective
