The COVID crisis has highlighted, if proof were needed, the role and impact of players in the pan-African technology ecosystem. It has accelerated the urgent need for digital transformation on the continent. In 2020, startups raised $1.4 billion; in 2021, $5.2 billion; and in 2022, $4.9 billion in equity alone. A trend that is far from reversing...
According to the IMF, $280 billion will be needed to connect Africa between 2021 and 2025. Similarly, by 2030, more than 50% of jobs will require digital skills, while Africa's digital economy will reach $180 billion by 2025 and $712 billion by 2050. There is huge potential to be unlocked, but also significant challenges to be overcome.
A catalyst
Launched in 2018, Digital Africa aims to support digital entrepreneurship in Africa. Acting as a catalyst for all actors involved in this pan-African digital ecosystem, Digital Africa works with its partners on three fundamental axes that will enable this ecosystem to reach its full potential and create the conditions for an inclusive digital economy. These are: skills development and training; access to finance; and support for 'African-made innovation policies" that favor innovative digital entrepreneurs in Africa.
“We are witnesses and allies to an Africa on the move, where dynamic, engaged and connected young people are the driving force behind a future full of promise”
We are witnesses and allies to an Africa on the move, where dynamic, engaged and connected young people are the driving force behind a future full of promise. Our mission is to act as an unconditional supporter of African tech entrepreneurs in their seed phase. We are committed to strengthening the capacity of these digital champions to design, develop and roll out disruptive innovations that serve the real economy. We are committed to working with those who create, invent and innovate using technology to improve access to essential services while creating value for their communities. Africa is the continent of entrepreneurs. And Digital Africa calls for a borderless union between entrepreneurs, researchers, investors, governments and citizens. Together, we are building an inclusive and prosperous Digital Africa, a source of inspiration for the world.
Digital Africa today represents five years of action, five years of challenges and five years of success. And we're determined to do even more! #tech4Scale.
An information and communication tool for players in the pan-African tech ecosystem
It only remains to inform, promote and connect the players in this ecosystem. Access to information - free and relevant information - is one of the main concerns of African digital entrepreneurs. At the same time, they need to be heard and known. On the partner side, the difficulty of identifying the actors and projects to support is a recurring theme in all discussions. These are the main tasks of Resilient.digital-africa.co.
“Created in 2020, this platform is more than just an information site in itself: it allows people to see, hear and better understand the realities of this ecosystem, its actors and its partners”
Created in 2020, this platform is more than just an information site in itself: it allows people to see, hear and better understand the realities of this ecosystem, its actors and its partners. It is also a tool to support these actors by making available tools, data and scientific works that are often unknown or inaccessible. This mission is more important than ever.
Providing players in the pan-African tech ecosystem, from startups to public officials and international investors, with a media outlet dedicated to the sector that is free, multilingual and, above all, has a global pan-African approach, not just a regional one. This is the Resilient Digital Africa approach.
Giving a voice to African tech
85% of the jobs that will exist in 2030 have not been created yet
Rapid advances in technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), have raised concerns and uncertainties about the future of work.
While it is normal to feel anxious about the disruption caused by technology, can we overcome fear, find new opportunities and adapt? This is just one of the questions raised by African tech players in Resilient Digital Africa.
